Macedon Ranges Wildlife Network
Helping a volunteer wildlife rescue network build an online presence that matches the warmth and credibility of their on-the-ground work.

The Challenge
MRWN is a volunteer-run, incorporated not-for-profit supporting wildlife rescue across the Macedon Ranges. Their work — rescuing kangaroos, wombats, possums, and more — is urgent and real. They needed a website that could recruit volunteers, build community trust, educate the public, and handle their strong search presence — without volunteers needing to become web experts.
They came to BollardDigital with a site that was not matching the quality or credibility of the work happening on the ground.
What We Built
A WordPress site designed around warmth and trust — earthy tones, natural typography, and clear pathways for every visitor type. The goal was to make it as easy as possible for someone who has just found an injured animal to know exactly what to do, and for someone who wants to volunteer to find a clear path in.
- Clear volunteer pathway — prominent CTAs throughout guiding people from interest to action
- Credibility signals — public liability insurance, DEECA-authorised operators, registered association status front and centre
- Community voice — real volunteer stories and testimonials that build trust with newcomers
- Wildlife rescue statistics — Macedon Ranges handles nearly 5% of Victoria’s wildlife rescue volume, presented clearly to demonstrate impact
- Wildlife species profiles — common species in the region with practical information for locals
- Ongoing hosting and maintenance — BollardDigital handles the tech so volunteers can focus on the animals
About the Client
The Macedon Ranges Wildlife Network is an incorporated not-for-profit formed to support wildlife rescue efforts, share knowledge, and assist carers and shelters across the region. Their members include Wildlife Victoria-registered rescuers, licensed carers, and wildlife advocates — all working to respond swiftly to animals in need and build a community that values and protects native fauna.
The Macedon Ranges handles a remarkable nearly 5% of Victoria’s total statewide rescue case volume — 200% higher than the second-highest wildlife rescue region. Their top rescue cases include kangaroos, wombats, ringtail and brushtail possums, wallabies, cockatoos, magpies, echidnas, rosellas, and koalas.
